Joke gets attention: 'PM' hands over $182.5m north coast rail funding Print E-mail

MrRudd_gives chqTo highlight the inconsistencies in Federal Govt infrasturcture spending, TOOT had their own Kevin Rudd visit Bangalow in May this year.

TOOT supporters said they would be very happy with even half the amount given to the Gold Coast light rail.

“The link from NSW to QLD is true nation-building infrastructure,” said Ms Kolbe, President of TOOT, and we call on the real Kevin Rudd to support the people of this area.

Federal Funding for our Rail Print E-mail

Our rail line is a federal issue because

  • it's a piece of national infrastructure, particularly the missing NSW-Qld link
  • tourism is a national responsibility and vital for this region
  • climate change needs to be tackled at all levels and rail is climate friendly
  • rail should form the backbone of a regional integrated transport system.

We are calling on all candidates to support the following commitments

  • Funding and program to reopen the Casino-Murwillumbah line immediately
  • Funding and program to build a rail link between Murwillumbah and Coolangatta airport within 7 years
  • Ensure genuine cooperation between NSW and Federal government (including joint funding) to deliver a commuter rail service on the C-M line.

Toot leads the way in the Casino Beef Week parade!
May 2006

Members of TOOT spread the word about the campaign when they marched in the Casino Beef Week parade last week. President Karin Kolbe said the TOOT campaign created a lot of interest in the beef capital.

"People waved and showed their support,” Karin said. “I think many people realise the benefit a commuter train service would provide. Access to jobs, a day at the beach or a shopping trip, would all be much more affordable and easier for people who don’t have a car or who don’t drive.”
