TOOT calls on Federal MPs to support rail
TOOT Trains on our Tracks calls on Federal MPs Janelle Saffin and Justine Elliott to show how they are working for commuter rail services in the area.
Ms Janelle Saffin, MP for Page, is quoted in the Northern Star 5/Feb as saying she “would support a State funding application for the railway - which many would like expanded into a regular commuter service and ultimately extended into Queensland.”
In the run up to the election Ms Saffin said “I will also place the issue before the appropriate infrastructure advisory process and raise the matter with Infrastructure Australia.” [Response to TOOT’s Survey, available at http://www.toot.org.au/content/view/92/88/ See question 8].
TOOT calls on her to immediately release any documents she has tabled on behalf of her constituents to either the NSW Govt or Infrastructure Australia.
TOOT calls on Ms Saffin to stop waiting for the State Government and to represent the people who elected her.
“We’re looking to see real support from our Federal parliamentarians. In these tough times the Federal govt should be providing the lead for the nation as a whole, and really ending the blame game,” said TOOT President Karin Kolbe.
The TOOT campaign also calls on MP Ms Justine Elliot to stop waiting for the State Government.
“The seat of Richmond is along a state border, so clearly the member has responsibilities to overcome cross-border issues. Why is she waiting for the state government? We want to see action, not blame or buck-passing” said Ms Kolbe.
A rail service would provide local jobs, as well as address climate change.
