Government hiding legislation from community
The NSW Government continues to hide behind secret legislation that will allow rail land to be sold or leased.
TOOT understands that the Bill to allow rail land and infrastructure to be sold and leased could be voted on in Parliament next week. To date the legislation has not been released.
"By hiding the legislation the govt is making a mockery of its claim that it will engage in community consultation. How can the the community intelligently debate something it can't see?" said TOOT President Karin Kolbe.
"The community as whole needs to be planning for how we're going to transport people and freight in the future. The Federal Govt wants to push our population to 35 million, while the State govt is selling off the railway lines needed to transport people and goods," she said.
TOOT encourages concerned business, community and environmental groups, as well as individuals and businesses to contact their Federal and state parliamentarians. The balance of power in the NSW upper house is held by the Shooters, Fred Nile, Gordon Moyes and The Greens. The Shooters and Fred Nile are yet to publicly state their position.
